Join us for a midday literary and culinary feast! Christie will read from her enthralling debut novel Gutenberg’s Apprentice, and discuss with author Katherine Maxfield medieval and contemporary start-up practices, working with agents and publishers, and, of course, the writing process.
Gutenberg's Apprentice evokes one of the most momentous events in history: the birth of printing in medieval Germany. Rich in atmosphere and historical detail, it weaves a story of invention, intrigue, and betrayal, as told through the lives of the three men who made it possible. As Booklist raves, “this wonderful novel fully inhabits its age."
Christie grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and is an author, journalist, and letterpress printer. She earned her MFA from St. Mary’s College, where she studied under Michael Chabon and Susan Straight. She has reported as a foreign correspondent for The Washington Post, Guardian of London, The San Francisco Chronicle, and Salon.com. She currently lives in London, where she reviews books and arts for The Economist.
